Psychiatric patient David Morgan stares vacantly from the window of his prison van, six weeks after his violent rampage through a Birmingham department store.

Morgan, of Aston, was dubbed the "Rackhams slasher" after cutting the throats of 15 women during a 10-minute spree through the shop's cosmetics and handbags departments.

His female victims, including a disabled 85-year-old, needed multiple stitches for their wounds - with one woman missing death by an inch after the blade almost severed her windpipe.

Morgan, 43, was given 10 life sentences Fendi Handbags in February 1996, after pleading guilty to nine charges of unlawful wounding and one of assault.

He also admitted slashing the throat of a psychiatric nurse with a razor blade while on remand at Ashworth high security hospital on Merseyside.
